European Money Week 2024 – Seventh Hellenic Competition on Money EMQ 2024 – Greece

The Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) participates for a tenth consecutive year with relevant activities in the "European Money Week" of the European Banking Federation and "Global Money Week" of OECD. 

The National Competition is only the first part of the joint initiative with the European Banking Federation concerning financial education programs for pupils aged 13-15 years old.

In this context, HBA successfully completed on March 20th, 2024, the seventh National Competition of the European Money Quiz. The competition was conducted online among 190 classes from 82 Schools (44 Gymnasiums and 38 High Schools) in Greece with the participation of 1.508 students, coming from Achaia, Arcadia, Attica, Chania, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Drama, Heraklion, Ilia, Ioannina, Karditsa, Kastoria, Kavala, Kozani, Laconia, Larissa, Lasithi, Lesbos, Magnesia, Messinia, Pella, Pfthiotida, Pieria, Preveza, Serres, Thessaloniki, Voiotia, and Xanthi.

The winner was class A4 of the High School Avgoulea - Linardatou School, followed by class A2 of 1st High School in Volos and class C3 of 2nd Gymnasium of Neapolis in Thessaloniki. The winning class will represent with two students its school and Greece in the European Money Quiz Competition, which will take place in Brussels on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th of April 2024.

The first three winning classes will receive a PC for their school.

HBA warmly thanks all the schools, students and teachers for their participation in the national competition and the interest they have shown in this initiative. For another year significant was the contribution of the relevant Directorate of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and the Institute of Education Policy for disseminating the competition throughout the country.

Financial Literacy has been increasingly recognized as an important individual life skill in a majority of economies. HBA aim through this initiative, is to make financial education possible/accessible even in the most remote areas of Greece. Thus, the EMQ dedicated website  will remain active throughout the year so that the Kahoot Games and the digital book "First Steps in Finance" (Greek Edition) can be accessed by all, students, teachers and parents.
